The blues in this are very vibrant and eye-catching. It's what attracted me to this piece.
I like this composition, but a couple things seem a tad off.
That planet has an eclipse thing going on. The glow around the contour of the planet should be equal on both sides of the star. The planet looks like it is lit more from the bottom, but there are no other stars under it to lend to that idea, thus it looks like it's pasted onto a star background.
The asteroids also lack depth. They look like they are all on the same plane, none of them recede into the background, none of them come out further from the others. I suggest trying an atmospheric fog look, which is to lighten the overall color of the object to make it recede. I also agree with the person who suggested to tint them blue. At least give them a blue light source.
It looks nice but I don't get why EVERYONE uses the same asteroid stock over and over again without adding any additional edits eg: light source they just plop it in...so that looks bad and out of place.
And your rings are WAYYYYY off. The perspective is super off and you seem to have not added any additional coloring to it.
Make your own like Sky Wyvern suggested, it's really not too hard. I remember seeing some asteroid GIMP tut somewhere. And for the color you can seriously just set it on a screen mode or adjust the hue...idk what you can do, it has been a LOOOONG time since I last used GIMP =/
Hold on, that's why there are groups like this one. You can never fail with advices .
I guess it feels hard to realize there are a couple of things to enhance but you love what you do and pleasure takes it all. You've got hints on how to enhance your deviation and IMHO the result is worth the challenge.
I personally find star fields are amongst the most difficult things to paint and you've dared paint one; it's already excellent. I'm sure you're only a few hints and tips from a perfect result .
Thank you! You have made me feel a lot better in what I do. I mean because lately people have been really harsh with talking about my work. I felt like deleting my account the other day because of a certain user who makes me feel really small.
it took me a very long time to get the star field right, I spend most time on it.
I start with just a black screen then I build up the starts and make the planet and then the rings, and then I place the asteroids last. The background was made up of lots of layers about 6, the Planet was about 12 and the rings where one.
